Far and wide known all over the world, Chinese Kung Fu is also called Chinese martial arts at home by Chinese people. It refers to a sophisticated system of attack and defense which contains a series of skills and techniques. Being a characteristic martial culture, Chinese Kung Fu is infused with ancient Chinese perspectives on life and the universe. With varied styles, Chinese Kung Fu always charms its fans with its ever-changing and challengeable skills.
Deriving from daily labors in the ancient times, Chinese Kung Fu came into being as some defense skills learned from hunting, such as hewing and stabbing. After the founding of Xia Dynasty, the primitive Chinese Kung Fu was frequently adapted for actual combats. But it still did not develop into a system until the appearance of Tai Chi in Shang and Zhou dynasties. Afterwards, Chinese Kung Fu came into flourishing in the feudal society, with wrestling, fencing and sword dance being popular in Qin and Han dynasties. In Tang Dynasty, specialized imperial exams of martial art were set, which further boosted the development of Chinese Kung Fu. During Song and Yuan dynasties, various folk Kung Fu associations sprang up like mushrooms. In the following Ming and Qing dynasties, varied styles of Chinese Kung Fu appeared, like Tai Chi, Xingyi Boxing, Eight Diagram Boxing, etc. Hence, it is rare for one to master all of it due to its numerous and complicated styles. There are many main streams of traditional Chinese martial art, all of which have a long history and have been being popular among Chinese for all the time.
By and by Chinese Kung Fu was categorized into Chinese sports in modern times. In 1927 the previous Chinese National Martial Art Club was founded in Nanjing and Chinese Kungfu show officially made its debut in front of the world’ eyes for the first time at the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936. Then in 1999 the International Martial Arts Federation was officially admitted by IOC (International Olympic Committee), which means Chinese Kung Fu would become an Olympic event and be spread to more and more corners in the world. Beyond that, it was many great Hollywood Kungfu movies acted by Bruce Lee which took the world by storm and made Chinese Kung Fu far and wide all over the world. Even to this day, Bruce Lee is still seen as the incarnation of Chinese Kung Fu.
