Chinese Kung FuFar and wide known all over the world, Chinese Kung Fu is also called Chinese martial arts at home by Chinese people. It refers to a sophisticated system of attack and defense which contains a series of skills and techniques. Being a characteristic martial culture, Chinese Kung Fu is infused with ancient Chinese perspectives on life and the universe. With varied styles, Chinese Kung Fu always charms its fans with its ever-changing and challengeable skills.

Deriving from daily labors in the ancient times, Chinese Kung Fu came into being as some defense skills learned from hunting, such as hewing and stabbing. After the founding of Xia Dynasty, the primitive Chinese Kung Fu was frequently adapted for actual combats. But it still did not develop into a system until the appearance of Tai Chi in Shang and Zhou dynasties. Afterwards, Chinese Kung Fu came into flourishing in the feudal society, with wrestling, fencing and sword dance being popular in Qin and Han dynasties. In Tang Dynasty, specialized imperial exams of martial art were set, which further boosted the development of Chinese Kung Fu. During Song and Yuan dynasties, various folk Kung Fu associations sprang up like mushrooms. In the following Ming and Qing dynasties, varied styles of Chinese Kung Fu appeared, like Tai Chi, Xingyi Boxing, Eight Diagram Boxing, etc. Hence, it is rare for one to master all of it due to its numerous and complicated styles. There are many main streams of traditional Chinese martial art, all of which have a long history and have been being popular among Chinese for all the time.

By and by Chinese Kung Fu was categorized into Chinese sports in modern times. In 1927 the previous Chinese National Martial Art Club was founded in Nanjing and Chinese Kungfu show officially made its debut in front of the world’ eyes for the first time at the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936. Then in 1999 the International Martial Arts Federation was officially admitted by IOC (International Olympic Committee), which means Chinese Kung Fu would become an Olympic event and be spread to more and more corners in the world. Beyond that, it was many great Hollywood Kungfu movies acted by Bruce Lee which took the world by storm and made Chinese Kung Fu far and wide all over the world. Even to this day, Bruce Lee is still seen as the incarnation of Chinese Kung Fu.

Shaolin Kung Fu

Shaolin Kung FuFar and wide known in China among all styles of Kung fu, Shaolin Kung fu is hailed as the ultimate martial art in China. It consists of a series of excellent attack and defense skills. Nowadays, as Chinese Kung Fu has gone world-wide, Shaolin Kung fu has become one of the major Chinese cultural icons.

A Buddhist story goes that Bodhidharma created Shaolin Kung fu after ten years of facing the wall for a spiritual enlightenment. Therefore, Shaolin Kung fu has long been associated with Buddhism from the very beginning. However, another theory goes that Shaolin Kung fu originates from the needs of guarding Shaolin Temple on Mt. Songshan. That is, after the temple was erected, the monks kept practicing martial arts to guard the temple, which unwittingly gave rise to the booming development of Shaolin Kung fu. After that, many other martial skills were added into it. Among masses of Shaoling masters, the eighteen arhats, the disciples of Sakyamuni, are the most famous and unbeatable historical personages in terms of Shaolin Kung fu. Shouldering a solemn duty of protecting the Shaolin Temple from any inimical invasion and threat, they were also ready to help others for a just cause, for this reason they have been being highly respected by people especially the poor. By and by, the eighteen arhats has become a heroic personage in China to this day.

The ancient Chinese philosophy believes that man is an integral part of nature, so movements that accord with body structure are considered to be the most logical and best ones. Based on that concept, Shaolin Kung fu lays much more stress on the mental cultivation than the physical motions. In the monks’ view, the ultimate goal is to achieve the unification of martial arts and Zen. Zen usually refers to deep meditation without distracting thoughts. It is the idea of combining Zen and Kung Fu that makes Shaolin Kung fu distinctive from others. According to the historical records of Shaolin Temple, the skills in Shaolin Kungfu totals 708, but only over 200 of which are passed on to this day. Over the 1000 years, Shaolin Kung fu has become a sophisticated system, which enjoys a far and wide reputation in the world.

Nowadays, as Chinese Kung Fu has gone world-wide, Shaolin Kung fu show is available all across the country. Welcome to China and prepare to be stupefied by the authentic Chinese Kung Fu.

Not the most popular tourist place for climbing the Wall, this section at Mutianyu there was no max crowded and noisy. After the walk, you can try the toboggan to slide down, it was also an interesting entertainment. Highly recommend!

I love this Beijing tours with tour guide Mark. He is a walking dictionary. We communicated happily in Beijing tours. Thanks.

In Clan Commune times, there are many wars in tribes, so the experience in wars promoted the sprout of Chinese Kung-Fu. Now, once people talk about Chinese Kungfu, they must call it Shaolin Kungfu which becomes the symbol of Chinese material art.
